Earth Day 2012

Earth Day 2012

John F. Kennedy once said “Ask not what your country can do for you- ask what you can do for your county”, and so for the remainder of the month I challenge you to answer this question only I ask what can you do for your Earth. Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, you may have noticed more and more Mother Earth-friendly commercials as well as a few Earth friendly tips at your local grocers and Starbucks. Why? It’s Earth’s month, with the 43rd Earth Day on April 22nd!

All month long people have been attempting to change small habits in an attempt to better our wonderful home, but the biggest day will be on the 22nd. So if you feel like being a little more “hippie” and want to fit in more with this wonderfully strange Austin lifestyle, then Earth Day is the perfect day to do so! There will be an Earth Day Festival with speakers all day long, along with an aerial photo for “Austin Beyond Coal”, and a public electronic recycling collection.

There will also be some other benefits to Earth Day: some major retailers will be giving away Earth friendly freebies. Target will be giving away their reusable shopping bags, as will Kellog’s. For information on some of the other freebies and where the Earth Day Festival will be, be sure and check out Earth Day Freebies and Earth Day Festival.
